There are now over 200 new growing plots on Southwark Council housing estates with more in development. There are 17 new gardens across the borough from Rouel Road in Bermondsey in the north to Melford Court in East Dulwich. Residents are growing veg and fruit, running spaces together and accessing training from Community Gardeners. If you are interested in setting up a space on your estate please contact the team by using the form on this site or directly at communitygardening@southwark.gov.uk
We have been busy supporting the development of several new community food gardens the past few months and we’re pleased to be able to share clips from several of these in this short film, thanks to all who to took part - https://youtu.be/C9GH5NluWAQ
If you have a group of keen neighbours and a site you think could work for food growing, do send us the details via the form on this page https://allotmentexpansionguarantee.commonplace.is/about
Thanks to those who have shared potential sites so far. Now that the campaign has launched we are working through the expressions of interest and will be in touch soon for more information. Make sure you have completed an expression of interest form (on the 'About' page of Commonplace) in order to be contacted about the next stage.
For any new expressions of interest, please remember that the scheme can support community food-growing projects on Southwark council estates. You will need at least least five residents interested in leading the project. We look forward to hearing from you.
